Growing Up Between the Hills

Written by the Cheeral Green host family · Updated 2026

This piece is easier to promise than to write well. Consider this the short version. The fuller story will follow once we've sat down and put it on paper properly.

Mornings That Started Before Sunrise

Growing up on a working farm in Wayanad meant mornings had a shape long before school did. There was checking on the plants and helping wherever small hands were useful. It meant getting to know this land not as scenery, but as something you were responsible for. That's a different relationship with a place than most visitors get to have. It's the one thing we try hardest to share with guests, even in a short stay.

What It Taught Us About Hosting

Hospitality in a family home isn't a skill you learn once you decide to open a homestay. It's closer to a habit you grow up inside of, watching how your own family treated the people who came through. A lot of what guests notice at Cheeral Green (the breakfast table, the willingness to talk, the lack of a rigid checklist) traces back to that.

More to Come

The specific stories (which trips, which years, which morning changed how we thought about all this) deserve more space than a placeholder page. We'll be back to fill this in properly.
